El Croquis 196 [I] presents the work of Karamuk Kuo, office based in Zurich founded in 2009 by Jeannette Kuo and Ünal Karamuk.
Karamuk Kuo Architects, based in Zurich, was established in 2010 by Jeannette Kuo (b. 1978, Indonesia) and Ünal Karamuk (b. 1978, Zurich). Jeannette Kuo received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley (1999), her Master of Architecture with Distinction at Harvard University (2004), and her Master of Advanced Studies at ETH Zurich (2010). After working for Barkow Leibinger Architects in Berlin and Architecture Research Office in New York, she started teaching in 2006 with the Maybeck Teaching Fellowship at UC Berkeley and went on to teach at MIT (2007-2009) and at the EPFL Lausanne (2011-2014). Since 2016, she is Assistant Professor in Practice at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Ünal Karamuk studied architecture at the ETH Zurich. In 2002, he studied for an exchange semester at Harvard Graduate School of Design before returning to complete his diploma at the ETH with Professor Christian Kerez. Until 2008 he worked at the New York offices of Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM), REX Architecture, and Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). From 2009 to 2012, he taught at the ETH Zurich Chair of Christian Kerez.

El Croquis 196 [II] is dedicated to TEd´A arquitectes. Spanish practice based in Majorca directed by Irene Pérez Piferrer & Jaume Mayol Amengual.
Irene Pérez Piferrer (Barcelona, 1976) has an Architecture Degree from the Vallés School of Architecture (ETSAV-UPC, 2001). Jaume Mayol Amengual (Mallorca, 1976) has an Architecture Degree from the Vallés School of Architecture (ETSAV-UPC 2000) and a Ph. D. from the Catalonia Polytechnic University (UPC, 2010). They both also studied at the Rome Tre School (1999) and have two children: Aina and Biel. TEd'A architects have been jury members and visiting lecturers at several international universities including Cornell University in Ithaca (New York), Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio (Switzerland), Kingston School of Art (London), ETSA Madrid, Lund Universitet (Sweden), KTH Stockholm (Sweden), Architecture School, University College, Dublin (Ireland), Fakultät für Architektur TU, Munich (Germany), ETSA Barcelona and HEIA, Fribourg (Switzerland), amongst others. Jaume Mayol has taught at the Vallés School of Architecture (Barcelona), IE School (Madrid) and ETSALS (Barcelona). Irene Pérez and Jaume Mayol were Directors of one of the workshops at the Porto Academy in 2017 (Portugal). The work of TEd'A arquitectes was exhibited in the Spanish Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 (winner of the Golden Lion), the CatalanBalearic Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale, and the itinerant exhibition 'Sensitive Matter: Young Catalan Architects, 2010-2012'.
